Upside Engineering Ltd. currently has an opportunity for a Senior Piping Designer to join our established team of professionals in Calgary. Upside has challenging, ongoing career opportunities for experienced Designers.
 
The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of 8 years of relevant Design/Drafting experience including a strong working knowledge of discipline specific skills, codes and standard practices.  We require an individual that exhibits a thorough working knowledge of technical and drafting techniques and is able to produce finished design packages with minimal guidance. The designer gathers information from all sources required including other disciplines, vendors, engineers, reference drawings and catalogs to produce complete, functional and constructible design packages and is able to construct scenarios from various information sources, consider alternatives, develop details and follow through with solid workable solutions for design problems.  You may be required to attend and participate in departmental and project meetings.  Visits to project sites may be required.
 
Skills and responsibilities will include:

• 3D Bentley AutoPLANT experience is required;
• Supply ASME, API, ANSI B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8 requirements and/or restrictions to the final design effort;
• Experience in the selection and placement of pipe supports, and equipment layout;
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of piping requirements for the pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, furnaces and boilers, tanks and pressure vessels;
• Prepare clear, accurate and complete drawings using practical design knowledge.
• Conduct field investigations, produce clear field reports with detailed sketches, written and verbal instructions;
• Participate in scope development, estimating, scheduling and job statusing for projects;
• Assist in the review of vendor shop drawings and design drawings; and
• Perform other duties as required.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience preparing P&IDs, piping plan and sections, and piping isometric drawings along with the strong knowledge and application of discipline specific design criteria, codes, standard practices and design theory.  Ideally you are solutions driven and manage yourself and others well.  You must also have a proven ability to help supervise or coordinate the work of designers, CAD drafters, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments. A demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other designers or CAD drafters is an asset.
