Description
Upside Engineering Ltd. (Upside) has an opportunity for a Power Generation Mechanical Engineer (PGME) to join our established team of professionals in Calgary. The PGME Engineer will work closely with other engineers, designers and drafters to deliver timely and technically sound results to and in conjunction with the Power Generation Engineering Lead.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Power Generation Engineering Lead and Managers in project design and execution to meet client schedules;
  • Plan, organize and supervise/execute the mechanical function of a particular project and develop the project team requirements;
  • Interface with other departments, project managers, engineers, clients and vendors during all phases of projects to ensure a good working interface;
  • Prepare material requisitions packages (MR’s) for rotating and static equipment for power generation projects, including technical bid evaluations;
  • Provide appropriate engineering input and a technical overview to design activities undertaken by design/drafting staff;
  • Provide cost estimates for small to large sized projects in collaboration with all other disciplines;
  • Ensure that the deliverables provided to the project are technically accurate, within scope, budget and schedule, suitable for the intended purpose and in compliance with applicable codes, federal/provincial regulations, client specifications, quality procedures and project plans; and
  • Travel to various sites in Saskatchewan may be required.
Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGS and APEGA;
  • Working knowledge of detailed design for Gas Turbine Generation projects, (100 MW – 1000MW) including Heat Recovery Steam Generation (HRSG) systems (EPC and EPCM) execution for Power Generation clients;
  • Knowledge of federal/provincial safety policies and procedures, Canadian codes, Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) various directives on heat rates, ramping rates, etc.;
  • Adept at writing technical reports and scopes of work;
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the following areas: Gas Turbine ISO 3977, Power Generation equipment, HRSG design API 534, Condensate and Demineralization Tank design API 650 Storage Tanks, (ASME Section VIII), piping design and piping codes (ASME B31.3, CSA Z662);
  • Proficient with MS Office software and various engineering software programs; 
  • Current safety training certificates such as WHMIS, Standard First Aid and H2S Alive, and
  • Valid driver’s license.
