Description
Upside Engineering Ltd. (Upside) currently has an opportunity for a Project Manager to join our established team of professionals in Calgary. Upside has challenging, ongoing career opportunities for experienced engineers.

The Project Manager plans, organizes and supervises a particular project. The Project Manager is responsible for developing the project team requirements for a specific project and working with department leads to ensure that resources are provided to successfully execute the project. The Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of the project on schedule, on budget and within scope while ensuring that the project is completed meeting the requirements of Upside’s quality management system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with senior management to determine long range plans and objectives;
  • Collaborate with project management/engineering staff to achieve project objectives;
  • Supervise/participate in the development/approval of design procedures;
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure assigned employees conduct their work in accordance with company safety policies;
  • Interface with other teams, technical disciplines, clients, contractors and vendors during all phases of projects to ensure that good working interfaces exist.
  • Participate in the resolution of personnel conflicts which may affect project success; ;
  • Approve project resource plans and track performance on projects;
  • Assess personnel needs and interview applicants;
  • Participate in proposal presentations and business development activities;
  • Understand the skills and functions required for all position levels under his/her supervision;
  • Provide a leadership role in quality management, continuous improvement initiatives and participate in project audits;
  • Ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget; and
  • Establish performance expectations for project employees.
Skills and Experience
  • 20 or more years of relevant project experience;
  • Previous experience with project delivery in a small to mid-sized EPC/EPCM company
  • P.Eng. in Alberta is required;
  • Experience in complex chemical facilities, petrochemicals, refineries, upgraders and/or gas plants
  • Able to generate and foster client relationships;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and competitive business environment;
  • Ideally you are solutions driven and manage yourself and others well; and
  • Ability to create and direct effective teams and to mentor and develop team members is essential
