Description
Upside Engineering Ltd. currently has an opportunity for an Intermediate 3D Electrical Designer to join our established team of professionals in Calgary. Upside has challenging, ongoing career opportunities for experienced designers.
 
Skills and experience:
  • Engineering design and drafting technology diploma or related technical diploma or certificate;
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant design/drafting experience;
  • Experience in an EPC environment would be an asset;
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, AutoPlant and Navisworks;
  • Working knowledge of discipline specific skills, codes and standard practices;
  • Experienced with application of Canadian Electrical Code and other relevant standards;
  • Able to use independent judgment in planning and selecting appropriate techniques and procedures to complete assignments;
  • Strong attention to detail, able to self-check and produce accurate designs;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced deadline driven environment;
  • Decision making and problem solving ability; and
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with other designers, drafters, technicians, and engineers who assist in specific assignments.
 Responsibilities will include:
  • Conduct design and technical drawing activities with respect to client requirements, meeting technical standards and relevant codes;
  • Independently complete complex technical drawings; including Area Classification, Single line diagrams, Schematics, Wiring diagrams, Panel layouts, Building layouts using AutoCAD;
  • Prepare 3D equipment layouts and cable tray design using Bentley AutoPLANT V8i, Navisworks and AutoCAD 3D;
  • Attend inter-discipline design and model review meetings and represent the project team;
  • Participate in the vendor drawing review process;
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced designers;
  • Assist in the design effort using information from various sources which may include site studies, vendor drawings, catalog data, engineering sketches, reference drawings and input from other disciplines; and
  • Show sound judgment and initiative in the interpretation of policies and in the planning and execution of responsibilities;
