Description

Upside Engineering Ltd. currently has an opportunity for a Junior Estimator to join our established team of professionals in Calgary. Upside has challenging, ongoing career opportunities for experienced candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Working under the direction of the senior estimator help with estimating the resource and time requirements of projects in order to maximize the accuracy of project quotes;
  • Ensure estimations take into account future trends and movements in the industry and business environments;
  • Work with external clients and internal disciplines to determine project requirements to render a recommendation regarding the profitability of a potential project;
  • Support the business development team with regards to the provision of project commitments
  • Work with outside sales personnel to provide exceptional customer service to clients;
  • Help price projects in an accurate and profitable manner to ensure Upside’s sustainability and customer satisfaction and value;
  • Ensure up-to-date knowledge of present industry and market trends and apply such knowledge to project estimates.

Skills and Experience

  • 2-5 years’ experience with technical engineering cost estimation;
  • Degree or diploma in engineering and/or business related area.
  • An understanding of how projects are executed in the engineering, procurement and construction world
  • Exposure to project management principles and knowledge of the project lifecycle
  • Demonstrate a technical understanding of engineering concepts across various disciplines;
  • Is able to take into consideration various external and internal variables and understand their impact upon the potential cost and result of a project;
  • Experience in a project controls environment;
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to persons of a non-technical background;
  • Ability to act in a tactful manner with internal and external clients;
  • Proven concise communication in both written and verbal form;

The estimator works closely with clients and the project control team to ensure realistic cost and time estimates of potential projects. The estimator must determine project estimates in an ethical manner and must ensure projects are quoted in a regard for business sustainability and competitiveness in the technical design and development industry.
