Upside Engineering Ltd. currently has an opportunity for an Intermediate Civil/Structural Engineer to join our established team of professionals in Calgary. Upside has challenging, ongoing career opportunities for experienced engineers.
Skills and Experience:
- B.Sc./B.Eng. in an engineering discipline or equivalent;
- Minimum of 5 years in oil & gas related or commercial/industrial structural design;
- Registered professional engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada;
- Knowledge and experience within an EPCM environment would be an asset;
- Knowledge of Principles, theories, and practices of Engineering;
- Structural analysis experience using manual and computer based techniques;
- Pipe stress analysis experience would be an asset;
- Experience using Dyna5/6, S-Frame and/or Staad is desirable;
- Ability to use and interpret results from structural analysis / finite element software applications;
- Principles of design in concrete/steel structures and foundations;
- Knowledge of earthworks and geotechnical engineering; and
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the design of the structural/civil component of various projects typical in oil and gas production facility applications;
- Design of civil/structural (CS) elements for company projects:
- concrete and steel piles
- concrete pile caps and footings
- steel structures for modules, pipe racks, equipment and vessel supports
- steel connections, baseplates and anchor bolts
- soil foundation pads for tanks and/or equipment following geotechnical requirements and specifications for the specific project site
- architectural features of plant buildings
- plant site grade, drainage and roadwork
- Oversee drawing development to “Issued for Construction” (IFC) status, ensuring all technical requirements are met and clearly illustrated;
- Stamp and sign all completed CS drawings at IFC issue, as engineer of record;
- Prepare calculation packages in accordance with company and industry standards;
- Perform interdisciplinary review of all drawings that may have an impact on CS design;
- Review drawings submitted by consultants, fabricators and vendors to ensure that all related CS requirements have been met and/or addressed;
- Address fabricator and constructor CS design queries as required;
- Site and shop visits as necessary to inspect facilities and work, monitor progress and ensure design conformance; and
- Provide input to development of project specifications, bid packages, work execution packages etc.
