Description
Upside Engineering Ltd. (Upside) has an opportunity for a Power Generation Electrical & Controls Engineer (PGEC) to join our established team of professionals in Calgary. The PGEC Engineer will support other engineers, designers and drafters to deliver timely and technically sound results to and in conjunction with the Power Generation engineering lead.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform design and engineering calculations in accordance with the client's Power Generation specifications;
  • Produce project design criteria, write up work scopes, technical reports, and other Power Generation related documents;
  • Develop equipment datasheets, prepare/evaluate bid packages, and support procurement;
  • Review electrical and controls drawing packages based on the applicable codes, standards and client's specifications;
  • Provide engineering support to technologist, designers, and engineers;
  • Check electrical and controls design, drawings and engineering calculations;
  • Prepare and submit data books to the client;
  • Ensure that the deliverables provided to the project are technically accurate, within scope, budget and schedule, suitable for the intended purpose and in compliance with quality procedures and project plans;
  • Travel to various sites in Saskatchewan as required; and
  • Adhere to the principles, policies and procedures set by the discipline engineering manager.
Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGS and APEGA;
  • Relevant engineering experience in Power Generation power and control systems design;
  • Working knowledge of detailed design project (EPC and EPCM) execution for electrical generation (100 MW-1000MW) clients;
  • Working knowledge of various electrical engineering software and calculations (PSSE, ETAP, equipment sizing, substation and gas turbine generator interfacing);
  • Experience with creating and managing material requisitions, quotations, and bid evaluations;
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and codes related to electrical and control systems;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and AESO (Alberta Electric System Operator) connection directives;
  • Able to work on multiple small and medium projects concurrently;
  • Experience writing technical reports and scopes of work;
  • Current safety training certificates such as WHMIS, Standard First Aid and H2S Alive, and
  • Valid driver's license.
